Highly acclaimed Hair Artist, Barber & Educator known as My Fathers Barber, Matt is a passionate advocate of raising awareness and creating communities and homes free of violence, speaking on behalf of charities like White Ribbon along with the It’s not OK Campaign. Raised in Christchurch, Matt knows firsthand what violence & abuse does to a child growing up in poverty, and it is for this reason that his unprecedented success in the barbering world has inspired countless people to pursue their dreams irrespective of where they have come from. The barbershop he currently owns was a dream of his since he started cutting up friends from a ‘shed in the hood’. There he worked tirelessly to hone his skills and perfect his craft. NZ media responded instantly to the original artistic aspect he brought to barbering and he has since appeared multiple times on John Campbell Live, Tangata Pasifika, What Now and The Erin Simpson Show, Seven Sharp & TV ONE News. Matt’s personal aim is to ‘raise the bar’ in barbering and hair artistry in New Zealand. Teaching and touring NZ & Australia regularly, Matt demonstrates and teaches the art of hair to sold out crowds. In 2016 Matt recently toured nationwide teaching the fundamentals of barbering and customer service with International Award winning Barber of the year Darrin Lyons from Los Angeles, whom is also known as the personal barber of choice for the late 2-Pac & Notorious B.I.G.
