Hello, we’re here! For 15 years now, young people have been inspired by some of New Zealand’s greatest leaders at National Young Leaders Days. But one day of inspiration just isn’t quite enough. We’ve been brainstorming for a while to find ways we can continue the leadership conversation back at school and home, before and after NYLD – so we’ve created the NYLD blog.

Reflecting on NYLD//14

What a year! It always amazes me how quickly the events go by. We spend months upon months preparing for the events and it feels like within minutes the event is over. We are currently planning the events for 2015 and it has led me to reflect on this year’s events.

Be an encourager

Leadership is about encouraging others. At times it’s hard to think of nice things to say, or do, especially when your brother, sister, or even friends might not be encouraging to you. A few little words of encouragement can go a long way and even brighten up someone’s day. Every day I look for an opportunity to say one good thing, whether it be a compliment or a word of encouragement, when you do this it can also encourage you.

Passing the leadership baton

For the past 14 years I have had the honour of leading the movement of National Young Leaders Days in New Zealand. Even though I have talked about leadership for many years, the hard part of leadership that probably no-one likes to talk about is ‘when is it time to move on’.
